Bircher Muesli

Bircher muesli is actually oatmeal soaked in milk overnight. Today a very well-known type of muesli was named after a Swiss doctor Maximilian Bircher, who used to prepare this kind of breakfast for his patients at the beginning of the 20th century. Nowadays, you can have this muesli for breakfast almost anywhere in Switzerland and Western Europe, and in case you want to make it yourself, here is the recipe. It’s easy to make, it’s nutritious, it’s delicious, which makes it a great breakfast option for the whole family!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup oatmeal

  • 2 tablespoons chopped hazelnuts

  • 1 cup milk

  • 30 ml apple juice

  • 2 tablespoons vanilla yogurt

  • 2 tablespoons raisins

  • ¼ fresh lemon juice

  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

  • 1 apple

DIRECTIONS

  • Soak the oatmeal in milk combined with lemon and apple juice. Let it stand overnight, and in the morning add vanilla yogurt, finely chopped hazelnuts, a grated apple and raisins. Finally, sprinkle with cinnamon and that’s it!
